View of West Corner Tower, from the Southeast wall note:the orientation of the city walls is not North - South. But Northwest - Southeast. Quite different from the Chinese practice. A walled city/compound from the Hunnu period that is located in Mongolia has this orientation. The corners are located on the compass points. Also, Khirigsuur in Mongolia are often oriented in a similar Northwest - Southeast direction. The Khirigsuur may be oriented to the winter Solstice. |
